An improved methodology for cable conductivity evaluation is introduced in this paper. Aiming for miniaturization and intelligence while taking advantage of embedded design, the proposed methodology not only reduces the physical size of experimental system significantly but also makes user interface simpler and more convenient to use. C8051F120 chipset is utilized as central processing unit; in the meantime, the technically mature and fully-fledged multi-meters are used as measurement module. Through carefully designed interface circuit, the inter-communication among the processing chip, LCD monitor, micro-printer and keyboard is achieved. By adopting arrays of relays and shifting registers, the multi-channel switching is realized. The conductivity and non-conductivity evaluation of a servo system is accomplished by the system using the single-chip processor which drives external measurement modules. The methodology changes the present situation that cable conductivity evaluation relies heavily on labor while improves the accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness of the evaluation.
