A design of a novel ridged transition is presented and applied to radial waveguide spatial power combiner. This structure uses a novel complex function to replace the traditional method of exponential taper or triangular taper, the suppression of resonance frequency and the reduction of power combiner’s insertion loss can be realized by optimizing the structure of gradual ridge. This novel gradual ridge is applied in the 30~40 GHz broadband spatial power combiner. The measured results of this combiner show that the insertion loss of power combining part which is constituted by gradual ridge is less than 0.8 dB and the whole passive combiner’s VSWR is less than 1.35 in frequency range of 30~40 GHz, so it meets the requirements of the combiner.
